What is setting stone and sticking stone jewellery

“Setting stone” and “sticking stone” are two different techniques used in jewelry-making to secure gemstones or other decorative elements onto a jewelry piece:

  1. Setting Stone Jewelry: Setting stones refers to the process of securely placing gemstones into metal settings on a piece of jewelry. This technique involves carefully cutting or shaping the metal to create a space, known as a “bezel” or “prong setting,” where the gemstone will sit. The stone is then placed into the setting and secured in place by bending the metal around it or using small prongs to hold it in position. Setting stones can be done with various types of gemstones, including diamonds, rubies, sapphires, and more. As there is no glue at the back the shine of stones is much better. For setting stone a skilled and experienced craftsman is required and hence the price of such jewellery is higher than the sticking ones.
  2. Sticking Stone Jewelry: Sticking stones, on the other hand, involves using adhesive or glue to attach gemstones or other decorative elements onto a jewelry piece. This technique is commonly used for costume jewelry, fashion accessories, or pieces with non-traditional materials where soldering or setting stones may not be practical. Sticking stones can provide flexibility in design and allow for the use of a wider range of materials. However, it’s important to note that sticking stones may not be as secure or durable as setting stones, and the adhesive used may degrade over time with wear and exposure to moisture. As there is glue/adhesive at the back the shine of stones is lower. For setting stone a skilled and experienced craftsman is NOT required and hence the price of such jewellery is cheaper than the sticking ones.

In summary, setting stone jewelry involves securely placing gemstones into metal settings, while sticking stone jewelry uses adhesive to attach stones or decorative elements onto a jewelry piece.
